FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Do I need to pre-register my child for tryouts?
Yes, we need the registration through Sportlomo to confirm the athlete's name, birthday, and contact information.

What should my child bring to tryouts?
Athletes should wear clean running shoes/court shoes, and athletic clothing. They should bring a water bottle and a positive attitude!

How many players will make the team?
Teams can be a minimum of 8 players and a maximum of 12 players.

When will the athletes hear if they make the team?
Formal offers will be sent out 1-3 days after the tryouts. A player is officially on the team when they've signed the offer, or paid a portion of their club fees.

How long is the club volleyball season?
The tryouts will run in November, and potentially December if we add more teams. The regular season including practices, game days, and tournaments, will run from January-May.

What is the time commitment for the season?
Typically teams practice twice per week, and participate in game days throughout the season. The team will decide which tournaments they want to enter, but it will most likely be three main tournaments.

Before I send my child to tryouts, I'd like to know how much the season will cost. Do you have a breakdown of the fees?
Salt Spring Island Volleyball Club is a non-profit organization and in no way profits off of your fees. Our Director and coaches are volunteers who dedicate countless hours to the athletes. Depending on how many tournaments teams decide to attend, this will determine the total cost. For a more detailed budget of fees, please see the Club Season page.

Where will the practices be?
We will be renting gym space from School District 64. Exact locations will be determined in December.

I see there's a U13 Boys team, but are there any other teams running this season? For example, a U13 Girls team?
Right now we only have one coach, and this is the demographic that expressed the most interest. We would love to run more teams if possible. If anyone is interested in coaching another team this season, please let us know!

My son is really interested in playing club volleyball, but he's in Grade 5, born in 2014. Can he still tryout for the U13 team?
Yes! Even though the U13 team is for players born between Sept. 1, 2011 and Dec. 31, 2012, younger players are welcome to attend tryouts. The Volleyball BC rule is that younger players can play up, but older players cannot play down.

Do you have to live on Salt Spring Island to try out?
No, we welcome players from all neighboring islands such as Pender, Galiano, Mayne, and Saturna. Keep in mind that practices will be held on Salt Spring and families are responsible for getting their child to practices and games.
